JORDAN'S FLAGSHIP
LFG POWER PLANT

Al-Ghabawi Sanitary Landfill is Jordan's largest engineered municipal solid waste facility, located east of Amman and operated by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). Jordan Biogas Company took over the full operation and maintenance of the landfill gas power plant and wellfield infrastructure in 2021.

JBC manages the complete lifecycle of gas extraction, treatment, and power generation at the site — from the wellfield network through to the engine hall and grid interconnection — delivering 4.68 MW of continuous clean electricity directly to GAM.

The scope of JBC's work at Al-Ghabawi extends beyond the power plant itself: our team is fully responsible for the operation and maintenance of 4 capped landfill cells containing a total of 740 gas extraction wells (Cell 1: 148, Cell 2: 132, Cell 3: 197, Cell 4: 263). The landfill is designed for 9 cells in total, with cells 5 and 6 currently under construction.

Currently, 4 cells are capped and fully operational with active gas extraction, cells 5 and 6 are under construction, and the remaining cells are planned for future development. Jordan Biogas Company is fully responsible for the operation and maintenance of all 740 active extraction wells across the 4 operational cells.

The most recently capped cell and the most productive, containing 263 extraction wells. As the newest capped cell, it generates the highest gas yields contributing significantly to the 4.68 MW output.

Cell 5 is currently under construction at Al-Ghabawi. Once capped and operational, JBC will take over the full wellfield O&M scope for this cell, expanding the active gas extraction network.

Cell 6 is also currently under construction. Together with Cell 5, this expansion will significantly increase the total landfill gas available for power generation at Al-Ghabawi.

Three additional cells are planned for the future expansion of Al-Ghabawi Landfill, bringing the total to 9 cells. As these cells are developed and capped, the landfill gas resource — and JBC's operational scope — will continue to grow.
